TORONTO (July 4, 2018) – Grace Foods Canada Inc. has selected the seven participants to take part in this year’s 3rd annual Grace Junior Chef Culinary Competition. Set to take place on July 21, 2018, the competition is a part of the Peeks Toronto Caribbean Junior Carnival Parade and Family Day, taking place at Neilson Park in Scarborough. Through three grand prizes, Grace Foods Canada will award a total of $1,500 to three winners.

The Junior Chefs aged 9-13 will be given 90 minutes to prepare, cook and present their recipes, and will be awarded the BBQ grills they use to cook the dishes. This culinary competition provides a platform for young aspiring chefs to demonstrate their culinary skills and promote a passion for healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. It is aimed at spreading Caribbean gastronomical culture by using local products with Caribbean flavours inspired by Grace Foods.

“Grace Foods is the brand that is passed on from generation to generation,” says Ilisa Chacon, Marketing Manager, Grace Foods Canada Inc. “As we look to the future we are excited about investing in the next generation, empowering youth to honour their heritage and to pursue their passion for Caribbean-inspired food.”

The judging panel for the competition will be comprised of three judges, including Celebrity Chef Head Judge, La-toya Fagon. A Toronto culinary heavyweight, Chef La-toya is a TIFF hospitality partner, personal chef to the Toronto Raptors and the owner and chef of Twist Catering.

“This competition is so important as it both encourages culinary creativity with the fusion of bold Caribbean flavours, as well as promoting healthy eating,” says Chef La-toya Fagon, Head Judge. “I am so excited to be back for the third year of this competition, and I look forward to tasting some new and delicious creations.”

The Grace Junior Chef Culinary Competition will take place on July 21, 2018 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. in Scarborough’s Neilson Park.
