(September 4, 2024) Winnipeg, MB Since the summer of 2012, Fairmont Winnipeg’s culinary team has been dedicated to providing downtown enthusiasts with the perfect burger every Thursday as part of their legendary Back Door Burgers experience.

This summer, in collaboration with The Dream Factory, an organization dedicated to granting wishes to children and young adults with life-threatening conditions, Backdoor Burger is happy to present our most inspiring lunch feature to date, “The Mighty Mak.” A handcrafted creation by The Dream Factory’s Dream Kid, Makenna, will be exclusively at Fairmont Winnipeg’s Back Door Burgers, located in the Plaza between the Richardson Building and Fairmont Winnipeg from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the Fairmont Winnipeg team to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience for Makenna,” said Andrew Kussy, executive director of The Dream Factory. “From her personalized chef jacket to naming the burger, Fairmont Winnipeg went above and beyond to make Makenna the star of the show.”

Makenna’s culinary journey began with an idea to create her very own dream burger. Throughout the summer, Makenna was invited to put on her chef jacket and join the Fairmont Winnipeg’s food service team and bring her delicious idea to life. When asked what makes a great burger, Makena explained with a big smile, “It’s the sauce, it’s all about the sauce.” Under Makenna’s flavourful guidance, she and the culinary team were able to explore the hotel’s rooftop garden for fresh ingredients and head out for a day at White Birch Bakery and make the perfect bun to accompany Makenna’s feature. After weeks of testing, cooking, refining, and tasting every step of the way, Makenna’s burger officially comes to life appropriately named, “The Mighty Mak.”

“Our journey with The Dream Factory began months ago and when Andrew shared with us that there was a Dream Kid with a passion for food and creativity, and we quickly knew it was a perfect match. Makenna’s dream coming to life as a result of energy, enthusiasm, and love of cooking has been incredible to see and we are excited for all that is to come with future collaborations,” said Ian Taylor, general manager of Fairmont Winnipeg.

A portion of the proceeds from all sales of “The Mighty Mak” will be presented to The Dream Factory to continue to help other children and young adults have their dreams come true. Chef Makenna and Fairmont Winnipeg look forward to welcoming the downtown community to celebrate this momentous chef’s special.
